Our Be Warm - Be Safe Campaign

Be Warm Be Safe 2

Age Concern Colchester has launched its ‘Be Warm - Be Safe’ Campaign to help and support older people. The campaign helps with home insulation, improvements to heating, getting best value for energy supplier, a fire safety check, free fitting of smoke alarms, a Bogus Caller Pack giving essential advice and help in the fitting of door bars, spy-holes and mirrors.

The plan is to organised a ‘health check’ of the above and to help older people to apply for the grants and services they require. For example:

Home Insulation and Heating Improvements.
There are a number of companies and grants which are available. We will look at what is on offer and help and support you with your application for insulation and heating improvements.

Best Energy Supplier
Better energy prices can often be obtained by ‘shopping around’ and with reference to past energy bills we can calculate your consumption and then look for a more attractive deal. We can even assist you in the transfer to the new supplier.

Free Fire and Safety Check
Through Age Concern Colchester we can arrange for you to have a visit from officers of Essex Fire and Rescue. They will advise you on fire safety, an emergency plan and they will also fire smoke detectors free of charge.

Bogus Caller Packs
The new updated packs are now available and they contain a great deal of useful information to reduce the risk of you becoming a victim of distraction burglary. In addition for clubs and other organisations we can offer a presentation on ‘Doorstep Safety’ This includes a short video staring Annette Crosby.

Fitting Door Bars, Spy-holes and Mirrors
Our scheme of offering the fitting of door bars, spy-hole and mirrors continues for a nominal charge. Full details about this will be given at your Home ‘Health Check’ or you can phone us on 01206 368420.

We are also able to offer a Be Warm - Be Safe presentation to organisations. If you would like to know more then please contact the Age Concern Colchester Office on 01206 368420
