School's project on World War II

Remembering

With the 70th Anniversary of the start of the Second World War this autumn it seemed appropriate that Age Concern Colchester should recognise this notable event.

We feel that as a charity whose focus is on older people, it is important to put onto record the memories and experiences of those who endured World War II either as a child or someone a little older who may have been involved in a military or civilian service at the time.

We have collected together photographs, documents and reminiscences of Colchester people so that this information can be made available to local primary schools as part of their National Curriculum studies.

We are aware that much information has already been collected by the Colchester Recalled Oral History Group but we felt that there was much more information that could be collected and we have put all this together in an interactive DVDpackage for all the primary schools in the Colchester area.

The first DVD was formally given to Fordham All Saints Primary School by the Mayor of Colchester, Cllr Henry Spyvee, on 9 October.
